Paris, Chicago, London: Outdoor Movies Around the World

.
New York is not the only city that turns its parks into outdoor movie theaters each summer. La Villette, the largest park in Paris, shows outdoor films nightly through Aug. 26. Feature films are shown in their original versions with subtitles and include both classics ( The Philadelphia Story ) as well as more recent releases ( Matchpoint, and Marie Antoinette. ) Guests bring picnics and for 6.50 euros, $9.25, at $1.41 to the euro, can rent a chair, a cheap date considering that entry is free (www.cinema.arbo.com).
Every Tuesday night through Aug. 28, movie fans can go to the Chicago Outdoor Film Festival in Grant Park to see Cary Grant in The Awful Truth, Paul Newman as Butch Cassidy, and Julie Andrews in The Sound of Music. Admission to the outdoor cinema is free, and the movies begin at sunset (www.cityofchicago.org/specialevents).
In London, visitors can catch an outdoor movie at Somerset House, above, a 16th-century palace just off Piccadilly, where the courtyard has been turned into a gigantic open air cinema. Film buffs can listen to their favorite Johnny Cash songs in Walk the Line, take the kids to see E.T. the Extra- Terrestrial, or catch the classic Rear Window. Tickets cost ВЈ12.50, or $26.25 at $2.10 to the pound (www.somersethouse.org.uk).
