Mount Gambier, Australia: Mount Gambier Racing Club Offers Outdoor Movies
por Michael Maltsev
Mount Gambier will be welcomed back to the 60s this Saturday night when the Mount Gambier Racing Club holds a screening of the hit movie Hairspray on an outdoor movie screen. The lawn area of the Allan Scott Glenburnie Racecourse will become home to an 8Г—10 metre wide outdoor cinema screen, high-quality picture and sound to entertain enthusiastic movie goers.
Set in the turbulent 1960s Baltimore, Hairspray follows a young Tracy Turnblad and her friends as she not only fights against the stereotypes that would prevent her dreams of TV stardom, but also the racial segregation that was rife in the 1960s.
Bursting with colour, dance and song, reminiscent of the original Broadway musical, Hairspray is brought to life with help from big name stars John Travolta, Michelle Pfeiffer, Christopher Walken, Zac Efron, Queen Latifah and the movie's breakout star Nikki Blonsky.
All have been invited to come along and enjoy a night under the stars of laughter, singing and dancing as Tracy breaks down prejudices with her optimism and killer dance moves.
Mount Gambier Racing Club general manager Ben Faulkner said it would be the first time an outdoor cinema session would be held in Mount Gambier.
The committee has been very proactive in utilising the fantastic facilities on offer here at Allan Scott Glenburnie Racecourse and have shown great initiative by holding an outdoor movie event such as this, Mr Faulkner said.
Everyone should pack a picnic rug and come on out to relax and recover after New Years.
It's also something different for the many holiday makers in town and children who are on school holidays.
Tickets for the outdoor movie can be purchased on the night and cost $10 for adults, $5 for children under 15 or $25 for a family of two adults and two children.
Refreshments from Finn's Fine Foods will be available along with full bar facilities.
Gates will open at 7.30pm with the movie starting around 8.45pm.
