Youngstown, Ohio: Youngstown Outdoor Movie Series Begins

Youngstown Outdoor Movie Series Begins

Outdoor Movies in Youngstown, OhioNow through the end of summer, you can watch a free movie outdoors on the lawn of the Covelli Centre. "Bring food. Bring a blanket. Just enjoy. It's urban living. You got the background. You got the city behind you. It's great. Youngstown's a great city," organizer Nick Dubus said. Dubus teamed up with the city of Youngstown last year to start the movie series after seeing its popularity in other cities. "I used to live in New York City, and in Bryant Park, they have movies every Monday night, and they show old fashioned movies. You'd get 10,000 people at these movies, and I really wanted to do something like that downtown," Dubus said. The city built a big screen last year, and now with a fresh coat of paint, they're ready for the 2009 series. Organizers say they had a lot of success their first year with hundreds of people coming out each Monday. This year, they're hoping to expand their audience by showing a variety of movies. "Everything from Iron Man to Jaws to Enchanted, To Kill A Mockingbird, we really tried to make it as diverse as possible to reach out to everyone," Downtown Events Coordinator Lyndsey Hughes said. And it wouldn't be a movie without plenty of snacks. "We do have the Purple Cat and Touch the Moon Candy Saloon selling old-fashioned candy and popcorn and soda, and the proceeds will help mentally disabled adults," Hughes said. The movies start at 9pm every Monday and run through August 31. The following is the complete free movie schedule: June 29: Iron Man July 6: Jaws July 13: Indiana Jones: Kingdom of the Crystal Skull July 20: Sixteen Candles July 27: The Family that Preys August 3: Madagascar 2 August 10: Disturbia August 17: To Kill a Mockingbird August 24: Enchanted August 31: The Incredible Hulk Source: http://www.wytv.com/content/news/local/story/Youngstown-Outdoor-Movie-Series-Begins/2MyEk7Xu50qvnVQ8JYZ5qg.cspx
