Williams, Arizona: Disney's 3D Movie Train Makes Stop in Williams
Community residents are gearing up for what is expected to be a busy weekend next week, as they prepare for the arrival of a special train promoting Disney's new "Christmas Carol" movie, starring comedic legend Jim Carrey and actors Gary Oldman and Colin Firth. The film, scheduled for release Nov. 6, is directed by Academy AwardВ®-winning director Robert Zemeckis.
A special train, promoting the upcoming 3-D film, will arrive in Williams May 29 and leave May 31. The Williams exhibit will mark the train tour's only stop in the state. The tour will begin its cross-country trek Friday.
Angela Berrigan, vice president of sales and marketing for the Grand Canyon Railway, said the arrival of the Disney train served as a perfect way to "celebrate train history and Disney's spectacular high-tech sneak peek of the holiday movie."
"The Grand Canyon Railway is thrilled to be the one and only stop in Arizona for the Disney 'A Christmas Carol' train tour," Berrigan said. "Visitors will enjoy a grand day indeed, including the daily excitement fired up by the departure and arrival of the Grand Canyon Railway train to the Grand Canyon, plus the thrill and activities aboard the four-car Disney train's interactive exhibits, green-screen technology and movie artifacts. The event footprint includes a 3-D theater and preview of the coming 'A Christmas Carol' film. Free parking is available on-property at Grand Canyon Railway with the Grand Depot CafГ© and Spenser's Pub offering ample and delicious options for on-site dining."
According to promotion officials, the train will make its stop at the Grand Canyon Railway Depot for its three-day stay and offer a number of free exhibits for Arizona visitors. Williams Mayor John Moore will be on hand for a ribbon cutting May 29. Attractions for the stop includes behind-the-scenes movie exhibits, authentic artifacts from the Charles Dickens Museum of London, costumes and props from the new film and a sneak peak of the actual film thanks to an inflatable 3-D theater that will be erected on site for the event. Organizers plan to inflate the theater May 28. The depot itself will be decorated with Christmas dГ©cor, thousands of lights and will even host carolers for the event. Snow machines will also be used to blanket the area with snow.
Officials with Radio Disney will be on hand to ask kids to enter for a chance to become a local representative for their Movie Surfer segment. Hometown Movie Surfers will get a chance to appear on the Disney Channel by filming their own Movie Surfer segment. Kids can register to win the contest by going online to
