Ventura, California: Dinner and an Outdoor Movie for an Unbeatable Price in Ventura, California

Outdoor Movies in Ventura, CaliforniaIn New York, catching "dinner and a show" translates into spending a few hundred bucks on Broadway tickets and a couple hundred more on dinner at a swank restaurant. In Ventura County, we take a more expansive, and far less expensive, approach to the idea of marrying food and entertainment. For example: the outdoor movie series featuring Former President and actor Ronald Regan concluded on Sept. 24th with a screening on "Hellcats of the Navy," and didn't cost a trickle-down dime. The 1957 movie was shown on a 24-foot inflatable screen erected in the courtyard between Corner Bakery Cafe and Red Fish, just two of several on-site places where patrons could grab something to eat before or after the free show. Red Fish also offered a three-course dinner served from 6 p.m. and during the outdoor movie itself, for those that make reservations. On the menu: items that organizers from the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library & Museum and the Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District described as some of Reagan's favorite foods. (Who knew Ronnie was a fan of sea bass with sweet pea puree?) Included in the $30-something price were jelly beans and a pass to his library and museum.
