Tromso, Norway: Outdoor Movies at Norway's Tromso International Film Festival

Tromsø International Film Festival is held each January in the dark polar nights of northern Norway, giving it the distinctive opportunity to screen outdoor movies. The outdoor cinema at TIFF occupies the main square in the heart of Tromsø, and its programme includes selections from Films from the North -- a section of shorts and documentaries -- alongside special screenings and other events.

TIFF 2008 recorded a total attendance of 47,522, making it Norway's largest film festival. TIFF 2009 marked Tromsø's 19th international film festival. The 2007 opening ceremony at Fokus Kino was broadcast live to the outdoor screen by NRK, with live music from the band Adjagas simultaneously broadcast from the city's main square into the cinema.
