Top 25 Outdoor Movies: Pirates of the Caribbean
Up next on our Top 25 Outdoor Movies of All Time: Pirates of the Caribbean. What began as a trilogy — The Curse of the Black Pearl, Dead Man’s Chest, and At World’s End — has since grown into a full film series, and it would make an awesome outdoor movie run, so much so that it earns a spot on our Top 25 list. But before we get into why these are such great films for outdoor movies, here is the trailer for The Curse of the Black Pearl:
Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, and Keira Knightley are the main stars of the Pirates of the Caribbean series, playing Captain Jack Sparrow, Will Turner, and Elizabeth Swann respectively. It begins with The Curse of the Black Pearl, as Elizabeth Swann is captured by the captain of the Black Pearl, as he believes she can help him escape a curse he and his shipmates received after stealing Aztec gold. Over the following films, the same characters sail around the world evading pirates, the East India Trading Company, villainous sea monsters, and a host of other characters.
The Pirates of the Caribbean series is a non-stop, action-filled ride that will keep your community members coming back for each successive screening. The films appeal to the whole family — loved by kids everywhere, but also by teenagers and parents. When you screen them, you might just get your largest crowds of the year!
Pirates presents many opportunities for pre-show activities and events. Above almost any film on our Top 25 list, it invites some really great costume contests! Imagine how many audience members would show up dressed as Jack Sparrow or Davy Jones. As we’ve said many times, costume contests and games are a great chance to give away prizes from local businesses and sponsors.
Your MC could even dress up as a different character at each of the screenings. Jack Sparrow makes a great character for an MC and will make the experience memorable for your entire community. Themed concessions and a number of games could all be centered around the pirate theme.
These films present an opportunity to make your event more than a movie screening — to fully immerse your audience and community in the world of the film, creating memories they’ll keep for a very long time.
As with other Disney movies, you’ll need to check with Swank Motion Pictures to make sure licensing is available for the dates you’d like to screen the films. Plan far in advance to secure licensing, and make the most of your publicity campaign so you get as many community members to your event as possible. They won’t want to miss these screenings!
As always, if you’ve screened any or all of the Pirates of the Caribbean films as outdoor movies, even in your own backyard, we’d love to hear your story. Share in the comments section below, or email us at sales@openaircinema.us.
