Spinningfields, UK: Free Open Air Cinema Comes to Town

Free, open air cinema comes to town

Outdoor Movies in Spinningfields, UKYou've got to hand it to that Spinningfields lot. They keep coming up with some excellent events. After all what we've seen in the last five years or so is the creation of a whole new city centre district: a hi-tech barrio of offices, apartments and eateries. And now Spinningfields is putting in the streetlife too. Next up is something never before seen on a regular basis in the city centre. We're going to the movies. We're getting a feast of celluloid summer salvation with a classic roster of films old and new. There'll be deckchairs, picnic blankets, popcorn, and, of course, a bar. And it's all blooming free as well. A grand total of nada, zilch, gratis for a great night out. You can come down with your mates for a communal laugh, your kids for a family film or float in with your lover for a very distinctive date. Heavy petting might be out though given all those windows looking down on you. Then again there are those blankets.... The cinema evenings start this Thursday 11 June and continue across the summer. It should be a walk in the park, or rather a stroll down the boulevard with the silver screen drawing people in like a moths to a flame. The movie choice is wide as well. There'll be Withnail and I, The Graduate, A Quantum of Solace, Breakfast at Tiffanys, the Incredibles, ET, the Boy with the Striped Pyjamas, the Rocky Horror Picture Show and Monty Python and the Holy Grail. As we say a rollicking roster of comedy, romance and action: old faves and newish eye-poppers. First up is the Duchess. This is the remarkable story of one of England's most outrageous and glamorous aristocrats - whose main home was Chatsworth House in the Peak District. Here is a story of rebellion against a loveless marriage, tragedy, self-discovery and redemption. Perfect. It's directed by Saul Dibb and includes an all star cast including Keira Knightley (as the Duchess), Ralph Fiennes, Charlotte Rampling, Dominic Cooper and Hayley Attway. Why not get yourself down this Thursday for some emotional evening entertainment? For more information check out click here.
