Seattle, Washington: Cyclefest Outdoor Cinema Shows Tour de France on Giant Inflatable Movie Screen

Cascade Bicycle Club’s annual Cyclefest brought together cyclists and outdoor cinema fans at Warren G. Magnuson Park in Seattle for the biggest Tour de France festival on the West Coast. The centrepiece: Stage 17 — a mountaintop finish at the classic Alpe d’Huez, with its 21 switchbacks — projected at dusk (approximately 9:15 p.m.) on a 15×20 ft inflatable screen. Admission free, rain or shine (the Tour screening would move inside the park theatre if needed).
Earlier in the day, a Magnuson Park Bicycle Treasure Hunt and a children’s bicycle parade got things started, followed by a bike polo competition and head-to-head road sprints by some of the fastest sprinters in the area. The New Belgium Beer Garden, Seattle Sausage Company, and Athena’s Gyros handled refreshments. A Tour de France Poster exhibition, presented by Alliance Française de Seattle, also ran during the festival.
Date: Tuesday, 21 July 2009 — Warren G. Magnuson Park, Seattle, on the lawn next to the theatre.
