San Diego, California: Outdoor Movies in San Diego

The greater San Diego area offers a number of outdoor movie screenings during the summer. Here are some standouts:

San Diego Outdoor Movies in the Park: The County of San Diego's parks and recreation department stages free outdoor movie screenings at parks throughout the county. Films screen every Friday and Saturday at dusk through September. For a complete list of venues and films, call (619) 757-1300.

Handelry Hotel and Resort: The hotel's restaurant, Postcards American Bistro, plays outdoor movies seven nights a week through this month for guests and locals. At 950 Hotel Circle N., Mission Valley in San Diego; $5.

Outdoor Movies in the Park: Every Tuesday evening through Aug. 12, Viejas Outlet Center offers free outdoor movie screenings for the whole family. At 5005 Willows Road No. 229, Alpine in San Diego; free.

Outdoor Movies by the Sea: Ellen Browning Scripps Park at La Jolla Cove will screen family films the first two Fridays of August, Aug. 1 and 8. Movies begin at sunset, following live musical performances beginning at 7 p.m. At 1133 Coast Blvd., La Jolla in San Diego; free.

Lake Murray's Outdoor Movie in the Park: On Aug. 18, Lake Murray's Allied Gardens Recreation Center will screen a free outdoor movie. The show begins at dusk. At 5155 Greenbier Ave. in San Diego; free.
