Red Wing, Minnesota: Red Wing Kicks off Outdoor Movie Season

Outdoor Movies in Red Wing, MinnesotaFree outdoor movies on the giant inflatable screen are planned again this summer at Bay Point Park, courtesy of Look Media Productions and local sponsors. Cinema Under the Stars will open with G-rated Toy Story May 30. The showing originally was announced for May 23, but has been put back a way because of Memorial Day weekend activities. Since the outdoor movie treat began three years ago, between 450 and 700 people have shown up to enjoy the films from the comfort of their lawn chairs, blankets - and sleeping bags. Vendors selling popcorn and other refreshments will be on hand. Each showing begins with live entertainment comedy, prizes, trivia and other interactive fun as people wait for dark. Purpose of Cinema Under the Stars is to provide family-friendly outdoor entertainment to everyone free of charge, with the support of local businesses, said Nathan Keech of Look Media. Volunteers from the company put in countless hours for the entire community, he noted. Toy Story, the opening film, is a 1995 American computer-animated family/buddy film featuring the voices of Tom Hanks and Tim Allen, with Don Rickles as Mr. Potato Head. The film was produced by Pixar Animation Studios, featuring music by Randy Newman. To set the stage for the story: old-fashioned cowboy doll Woody is coordinating a reconnaissance mission around his owner Andy's birthday party in the days before Andy's family moves to a new house. To Woody's dismay, Andy receives a new action figure in the form of space ranger Buzz Lightyear, whose impressive features soon see Buzz replacing Woody as Andy's favorite toy. Entertainment will begin at 7:30 p.m., and the movie will start around 9 p.m. The rest of the summer's schedule follows: June 13: The Sandlot, rated PG; entertainment at 8 p.m., movie at 9:25 p.m. July 4: Independence Day, rated PG-13; entertainment at 8 p.m., movie around 10:30 p.m., following fireworks.
