Outdoor Movies in Portland, Oregon

Portland, Oregon hosts several free outdoor movie series each summer in parks and open areas across the metro area.

Flicks on the Bricks at Pioneer Courthouse Square

Pioneer Courthouse Square hosted the SmartPark-sponsored Flicks on the Bricks series on Friday evenings in July and August. Recent summer screenings have included The Goonies, The Birdcage, Ghostbusters, and National Lampoon’s Vacation. Schedules are released closer to summer.

Multnomah Outdoor Cinema

The Multnomah Outdoor Cinema, organized through the Multnomah Neighborhood Association and supported by Portland Parks & Recreation’s “Big Screen on the Green” programme, screens free family films on Friday evenings at the covered basketball courts at the Multnomah Arts Center. Gates open at 8 p.m. One season’s lineup included:

  • Men in Black (1997)
  • Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (1986)
  • The Princess Bride (1987)
  • School of Rock (2003)

Flicks by the Fountain, Beaverton

Beaverton City Park hosts Flicks by the Fountain every August on a 50-by-30-foot inflatable screen. The event is free and open to the community; attendance has reached 1,500 people for a single evening. Food and drinks are for sale on-site; outside food and non-alcoholic beverages are also welcome. Bring low-back chairs or blankets. Pre-show entertainment starts at 8 p.m.; the film begins at dusk (roughly 8:10–8:40 p.m. depending on date and cloud cover). Hall Blvd. is closed for the event. No pets, alcohol, or smoking. Cancelled in rain or lightning.
