Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago: First Outdoor Movies to Showcase Local Films
The Trinidad and Tobago Film Company (TTFC) will launch the first of its T&T Film NightsCinema Showcase projects this evening, under the stars at the Norfolk Street Park, Belmont. The outdoor cinema project will screen five local films to the Belmont community and is a collaboration between the Trinidad and Tobago Film Company Ltd (TTFC), the Office of the Mayor of Port-of-Spain and the Regional Corporation of Belmont.
The project has also attracted private sponsorship from First Citizens, the sponsor of the huge 30-foot screen which will be used to show the films. The Cinema Showcase will screen a range of films to communities throughout T&T in 2010. The project has been developed in conjunction with the Offices of the Mayors in several boroughs and cities, including Port-of-Spain, Arima, Point Fortin and San Fernando.
It is designed to showcase the work of local and regional film-makers and allow communities to view films rarely seen in the local cinemas and on television. Film-makers will be in the audience to respond to the questions from the audience and encourage interest in local films.
Mayor Murchison Brown has expressed pleasure to assist the TTFC with this project and, in the spirit of making the event open to the entire community, he has agreed that his office will absorb the cost of admission, which was being charged towards paying the producers for their films.
Brown noted, We look forward to the residents of Belmont coming out in their numbers to enjoy local films and we are pleased to collaborate with the TTFC and other sponsors in making the event possible. Read more...
