Po'ipu, Kaua'i: Outdoor Movie in the Park Draws Residents and Visitors in Hawaii
I'm always surprised at the number of outdoor movie events I stumble across that are in places like New York, or Norway, where it's cold. People somehow manage to stick out the cold and still gather under the stars to see their favorite movies al fresco. Like that open air cinema for snowmobiles, amazing!
But here is one outdoor cinema event exactly where you would expect it: where the weather's always warm, beaches aplenty, and vacationers always looking for something to do. That's right—each month Kaua'i, Hawaii, will show an outdoor movie at Poipu Beach Park.
Last weekend's free outdoor film screening of "Transformers" was a big hit as about 600 Hawaii residents and visitors came out to watch the movie on the beach. The movie was projected onto an inflatable screen, which was situated properly in light of strong winds.
The last time we had the screen positioned out against the ocean, but the winds tonight made the guys set it up in a different position, said Roberta Charles, the outgoing president of the Rotary Club of Poipu Beach.
However, the winds were barely noticeable for the moviegoers, and everyone loved the outdoor movie event. Residents commented that sometimes it doesn't feel like there's much to do on the island for someone who has lived there their whole life, and so they appreciated this special event.
Tourists loved it as well, as it gave them an opportunity to relax and watch a movie in the beautiful environment they came to see! The Rotary Club of Poipu Beach will continue to show outdoor movies each month, so don't miss it!
