The iconic Brooklyn Bridge served as the backdrop for the 500th outdoor movie screening delivered by Fresh Air Flicks, a small business headquartered in Brooklyn, NY. Over 4,000 people turned out to watch Stanley Kubrick's 1980 Thriller "The Shining" on the company's 2-story inflatable movie screen, as part of the annual "Movies With A View" series produced by The Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy. The 5 year old small business provides the sound, projection and inflatable movie screen for outdoor cinemas in locations throughout NY, NJ and CT including New York's Central Park and Socrates Sculpture Garden, Sinatra Park in Hoboken, NJ, and a number of college campuses throughout the Northeast. Fresh Air Flicks was responsible for delivering over 200 outdoor movie events in 2008, up from 145 the previous year. Company Founder Glen Sanders believes the increase in business is fueled in part by the sluggish economy. "Our clients had record attendance levels this year because more Americans are looking for ways to enjoy their community closer to home," says Sanders. "An outdoor movie is a safe, fun, free community event which is a great use of public space." Sanders plans to grow the business in 2009 by selling corporate sponsorship. He feels that advertisers are beginning to take notice of the skyrocketing popularity of outdoor movies. "These are loyal audiences in a captive atmosphere that is free of ad clutter," says Sanders. "They will remember the corporate sponsor that helped bring outdoor movies to their community."
