Outdoor Movie Review: The Social Network
The upcoming film The Social Network will be opening in theaters on October 1. The Social Network is directed by David Fincher and has a pretty great cast including the likes of Jesse Eisenberg, Andrew Garfield, Justin Timberlake, Brenda Song, Rashida Jones, Max Minghella, Rooney Mara, Malese Jow, and Joseph Mazzello.
Here is a pretty interesting trailer for the film:
The Social Network has garnered quite a bit of attention, as it focuses on the founding days of the social networking site Facebook. The film portrays founder Mark Zuckerberg's early years with Facebook, and accounts the tumultuous experiences that followed the explosive growth of the revolutionary website.
Zuckerberg quickly made millions (and eventually billions), but initially was drawn through a series of legal battles that apparently (and ironically) staged him against his friends as many sought to bring his empire down.
We've heard and read some interesting reports that say there seems to be quite a bit of animosity from Zuckerberg and Facebook about the film, with little cooperation and support.
It will no doubt be interesting to see how successful The Social Network is at the box office, and alternatively how the film affects public perception of the ever present Facebook.
We're excited that there are finally films being made that attempt to catalog the beginnings of the social networking era, as it has no-doubt been an important part of web (and general) history.
Once licensing is available, The Social Network will make a really great choice for your high-school or college campus outdoor movie event! Almost every kid uses Facebook on a daily basis, and so the screening of the film on your local campus will surely draw a big crowd, and will be a popular event that will show your students that you understand what they're interested in.
