Atlanta, Georgia: Outdoor Movie Company Expands Service Area
Outdoor movie events across the Southeast U.S. were in full swing by summer 2008, with parks departments, shopping centers, and community organizations in every major metro area running free screening series. Cities including Atlanta, Charlotte, Nashville, Orlando, and Jacksonville all had established programs by this point, typically using large inflatable screens and digital projection equipment. Most events were on Friday or Saturday evenings at dusk, free to the public, with local food vendors and pre-show entertainment.
The Southeast's warm climate extended the outdoor movie season: in Florida and coastal Georgia, comfortable evenings run from September through May, while the mid-Atlantic region concentrates screenings in June through August. By 2008, outdoor cinema had moved from novelty to expected summer amenity in most southern cities.
