Open Air Cinema To Screen Live Presidential Debates in Port Au Prince, Haiti
.
Open Air Cinema's Stuart Farmer arrived in Haiti last Friday to make preparations for live outdoor movie screenings of the Haitian presidential debates in advance of the elections on the 20th of March. Open Air Cinema is working with our long time partner, Film Aid International, whose mission is to project hope and change lives through the power of film. The presidential debates will be screened over the next week and a half (utilizing the technology of Open Air Cinema's outdoor movie systems) throughout a handful of the tent-camps where many Haitians are still living after the immense destruction from the earthquake over a year ago.
Stuart Farmer has been working to make preparations for the screenings with the director of Film Aid International, Liz Manne, who was recently appointed by President Barack Obama to serve on the President's Committee on the Arts and the Humanities. We arrived just in time for Kanaval (the Haitian Mardi Gras), and made our way through downtown Port Au Prince to check out the festivities. Below are some images of what we saw. We will keep you updated as we continue to prepare for the outdoor movie screenings!
