Open Air Cinema Launches Backyard Home Theater System

Open Air Cinema announced the CineBox Home outdoor theater system in August 2008 -- a backyard movie kit built around a patent-pending 10- or 12-foot inflatable screen. The concept was timed to the “staycation” trend of that summer, when high travel costs were keeping families closer to home.

“We rip the roof off the home theater and take it outside,” said Stuart Farmer, CEO of Open Air Cinema. “Our system is easier to set up than a pup tent, and when deflated, the screen weighs about eight pounds and fits inside a duffle bag.”

The CineBox Home kit included an inflatable screen, digital projector, DVD player, sound mixer, LED light, cables, carrying case, and a near-silent blower fan with muffler. Screens were manufactured in the USA from wrinkle-resistant materials. The system was available through Amazon.com.
