The Old Oakland Outdoor Cinema will screen an outdoor movie event featuring Kevin Costner's 1989 baseball classic "Field of Dreams" at dusk Friday, meaning about 8:45PM. Admission is free, free, free.
A large screen will be set up on Washington Street, between Ninth and 10th streets, in Oakland. Street lamps will be covered to enhance your viewing pleasure, says Ami Zins, Oakland Film Commissioner.
Bring your own chairs and blankets. Free parking will be available after 5 p.m. on a lot at Eighth and Washington streets. Neighborhood restaurants will stay open late. People can eat in or take out. Popcorn and candy will be available. Festivities are scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. with a jazz combo.
Everyone will get one free raffle ticket. Prizes vary from free meals at neighborhood restaurants to free haircuts, T-shirts and coupons to area retailers.
The film will be preceded by the 17-minute "Memento"-like short "Irreversible" and a 31/2-minute video compilation of scenes from movies shot in Oakland.
The series continues next week with "Tootsie" and a drag contest.
"Singin' in the Rain" closes the series two weeks from now.
