New York: Celebrity Event in the Hamptons Benefits Outdoor Movies with FilmAid

Academy Award winner Philip Seymour Hoffman hosted a benefit screening of The World According to Garp at SoHo House in the Hamptons, with proceeds benefiting FilmAid. Written by John Irving — who once lived in Bridgehampton — the film co-starred Robin Williams, Glenn Close, and John Lithgow. Glenn Close made a surprise appearance at the event and shared memories from the shoot; it was her first role on the big screen.

The screening was part of the IN-House Series, founded by film producer Katrina Pavlos in 2008, which pairs important films with celebrity introductions and benefits FilmAid. FilmAid is a non-profit that uses the power of outdoor film screenings to reach hundreds of thousands of forcibly displaced people each year, promoting health and strengthening communities in refugee settings.
