The Planning Board on Monday night unanimously approved a request by the Dreamland Theater to show outdoor movies on its South Water Street property this summer. These open air cinema screenings will be an asset to the Nantucket community at large.
Workers are now driving pilings for the new outdoor cinema's foundation, but construction work on the Dreamland site must stop by June 15 under town bylaw. By early July, the property will be graded, leveled and covered with sod, and movies will be shown Thursday-Sunday nights on an outdoor movie screen. A small tent will hold the projection equipment.
The outdoor films are expected to be a social event to include the whole community and visitors to Nantucket.
