Livingston, New Jersey: Youth Appreciation Week Concludes with Outdoor Movies

Outdoor Movies in Livingston, New JerseyFollowing a full week of youth and family activities, Livingston's 14th Annual Youth Appreciation Week celebration moves into high gear with many FREE events planned for Memorial Day weekend. The Family Festival at the Oval on Saturday, May 23rd will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. rain or shine, and will kick off with the ever-popular Chalk Art. The first 125 artists will receive free chalk and t-shirts donated by the Livingston Municipal Alliance Committee (LMAC) and PROMOS LLC. The children will be asked to draw a picture about this year's YAW theme, "Kids Make the Difference," and be encouraged to use their creativity. Free morning coffee will be provided by Starbucks. The exciting Classic Car and Truck Expo will take place around the Oval this year for all to see. Registration for the car and truck show is at 9 a.m. today and the show is at the Oval from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. For young artists, Livingston Collision, Inc. will sponsor the "Crafts Corner." The event will be coordinated by girl scouts of Livingston Troop 743. Platypus Pottery will provide pottery-making, sponsored by Formosa Plastics. Just A Dream, located in West Orange, will sponsor the face painting. Talented face painters will be on hand to create the children's fantasy designs. Maurice's Party Animals will once again provide inflatable amusements. Dr. David Silverstrom will sponsor the Petting Zoo; children can visit with their favorite farm animal friends. Be sure to drop by and take advantage of the Pony Rides sponsored by Levine, Jacobs & Company, LLC. Ko's Tae Kwon Do will hold an exciting martial arts demonstration from 1 to 2 p.m., and Cheryl Francione of the West Essex YMCA will get the entire family moving with West Essex YMCA's Fun with Fitness from noon to 3 p.m. Livingston Girl Scout Troop 917 will coordinate the Biking and Walking Safety activity, which is sponsored by the East Cedar Street Commons. Sponsoring Project Porch Light Green will be Green Market Fundraising. Don't forget to stop by to get your free energy-efficient light blub. Throughout the day, HCHY's Livingston Skate Park Committee will hold the final sale of Livingston's remaining "retired" street signs. Don't miss your one last chance to own a piece of Livingston history! Be sure to visit the Fire Truck and First Aid Ambulance from noon to 3 p.m. Youngsters may tour the equipment and meet Sparky the Firedog. The Livingston Police Department will offer free Child ID Kits and Child Safety Seat Checks. Child Safety Seat Checks will take place at St. Philomena's Church parking lot. The historic Force Homestead will be open for tours from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. All will take place within the wonderful party atmosphere created by DJ Brandon's music! A wide variety of food and refreshments provided by Mike Huetter will be available for purchase throughout the day. Coffee will be provided at no charge throughout the day. All rides and activities are free of charge. In case of rain, most events will be held inside Livingston High School. As the sun sets, all community members are invited to bring chairs and blankets for an open-air, large screen showing of "KUNG FU PANDA" sponsored by Eastman Companies. An 8:30 p.m. start is anticipated. In the event of rain, the movie will be scheduled for a future date. Due to construction at the Municipal Complex and High School, parking for all Saturday's events will be strictly limited to the Livingston High School North Lot, Memorial Pool, the rear lot of St. Philomena's Church, and the Grace Lutheran Church. Directional signs and traffic assistance will be available throughout the day and evening. On Sunday, May 24th, the Cole Brothers Circus will come to town and The "Raise the Tent" event will be held from 7:00 to 7:30 a.m. at the circus grounds located at the Eisenhower Corporate Campus at the Livingston Route 10 Circle. With refreshments provided by Costco and Starbucks, the circus shows are scheduled for 2:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, and at 1:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. on Monday, May 25th. Tickets are on sale at the Livingston Recreation Department, 204 Hillside Avenue, and at Meyer's Toys Dolls Hobbies, 35 East Northfield Road.
