La Jolla, California Presents Outdoor Movies By the Sea This Summer
.
La Jolla Parks & Recreation Inc. has applied for a grant to host the Movies By The Sea outdoor movie exhibition at the Cove again this summer. The outdoor film series would invite friends and family of the La Jolla community to enjoy family movies on an inflatable screen.
"We've applied for a $7,000 grant from County Supervisor Pam Slater-Price to support the event," said Hobe Schroeder, the park group's treasurer. "We are still planning to show at least one, hopefully two, movies on Aug. 7 and 14."
Schroeder said the decision on whether the grant request is to be funded will be made at a hearing in June.
Schroeder said he came up with the idea for hosting a community movie night after the Cove theater closed in 2003.
"We loved the movie theater we had in the Village," he noted, "and I thought Scripps Park is a wonderful place to show movies."
La Jolla Parks and Recreation Inc. teams with Promote La Jolla, Inc., the community's business improvement district, to host the event, which is put on by Starlight Movie Co. of St. Louis. Movies are shown on a 40-foot-by-40-foot inflatable movie screen with a digital projector providing theater-quality sight and sound outdoors.
