La Jolla, California: Outdoor Movies Screened at La Jolla's 'Flicks on the Bricks'

Outdoor Movies in La Jolla, CaliforniaThis year's "Flicks on the Bricks" series of outdoor film screenings with wine tastings will feature four films. For each screening, local wine lecturer Barbara Baxter will introduce wines to accompany the film. Join us on four warm summer nights in the courtyard of the Athenaeum for memorable outdoor movies and coordinated wines. The schedule is as follows: -July 30: "Bottle Shock" -Aug. 6: "Eat Drink Man Woman" -Aug. 13: "French Kiss" -Aug. 20: "Casablanca" Tickets for the open air cinema series cost $52 for members and $72 for nonmembers. Individual tickets are $15 for members and $20 for nonmembers. The outdoor cinema screenings will take place at the Athenaeum, which is at 1008 Wall St. For reservations, call (858) 454-5872. Outdoor Films July 30 Bottle Shock Bottle Shock is a testament to California winemakers as well as a cinematographic feast with its stunning aerials of Sonoma's sumptuous valleys. Barbara Baxter will conduct a blind wine tasting between French and Californian wines. August 6 Eat Drink Man Woman Director Ang Lee sets this sumptuous film about love, family, and loss against the artistry of Chinese cooking. Barbara will serve crisp and dry red and white wines from Europe, which pair deliciously with Asian cuisine. August 13 French Kiss This vintage romantic comedy is set in France's Southern wine region. You'll learn how to discern the subtle flavors and aromas we expect from French varietals. We'll sample a red and a white from southern France. August 20 Casablanca This final film is a timeless classic that offers us a chance to enjoy the contrast between today's hard times and fine Champagne, alongside notables like Humphrey Bogart, Ingrid Bergman, Claude Raines, and music by Max Steiner.
