Jean Wyclef and Yele Cinema Bring Outdoor Movies to Haiti
Yele Cinema, supported in part by Wyclef Jean's Yele Haiti foundation, operated a customized truck with a built-in generator and projector to bring free outdoor film screenings to poor neighborhoods in Port-au-Prince. Only 32% of Haitian households had access to electricity; access to educational programming, news, and entertainment was extremely limited. The truck showed Creole-dubbed and French-language feature films and documentaries from the Festival Film Jacmèl's library, interspersed with public service announcements on social, environmental, and economic issues.
