Gypsum, Colorado: Outdoor Movie Series Joins Live Music During the Month of July in Gypsum
Gypsum plans a concert and outdoor movie event on Friday, June 12. Titled The People's Friday, the show features downvalley country rock band Derringer and a showing of the movie Land Before Time. The event is the first of several outdoor cinema and music shows the town of Gypsum plans on Fridays at the Lundgren Theater. The movies under the stars, along with the live bands, are sure to gather family and friends from near and far.
We're hoping to have around 150 people, and we hope it will build throughout the summer, said event organizer Dawn Ritts, the special projects coordinator for the town of Gypsum.
Derringer is a four-piece band that plays a mix of covers and original songs. Think country with rock guitar and three-part harmonies, lead singer Sean Paxon said.
.
At dusk, the town will show Land Before Time on a 27-by 19-foot inflatable movie screen, Ritts said.
The 1998 animated film follows a dinosaur named Littlefoot who escapes from famine and upheaval to search for an area that has been spared devastation.
Ritts recommends that movie-goers dress warm and bring lawn chairs. Expect to see food vendors, along with dinosaur crafts and a bouncing castle for children.
For the first time, the new Gypsum chamber will man a booth at the show. Folks from the chamber will hand out watermelon slices and water bottles, and encourage people to adopt a duck for the Rotary Club's rubber duck race in September.
The town of Gypsum has been sponsoring concerts and outdoor movies for the past four summers.
