The 7th Fremantle Outdoor Film Festival ran for 19 summer nights at Bohemia Outdoor Cinema, Princess May Park, 92 Adelaide St, Fremantle — Friday 30 January through Saturday 28 February 2009. The programme featured independent Australian and international cinema, local shorts, WA Screen Awards finalists, Rock Docs, and Perth’s best live bands and DJs. Gates: 6:30 p.m.; bands from 7 p.m.; outdoor movies from 9:30 p.m.

Wednesdays — WA Screen Awards

Each Wednesday showcased the finalist films for the 22nd WA Screen Awards (March 2009). Entry by donation.

Thursdays — Rock Docs

Presented by FTI, RTRfm, and Fat Yak — a live local band followed by a rock music documentary. Programme: Patti Smith: Dream of Life (5 Feb), Dig! (12 Feb), Rize (19 Feb), and Gimme Shelter (26 Feb). Entry $20 (18+); supported by WAM, Rockus, and Cut & Paste.

Fridays — Australian Independent Film

Rock N Roll Nerd (30 Jan), Men’s Group (6 Feb), WA premiere of Acolytes (13 Feb), Bitter and Twisted (20 Feb), and FTI’s Making Movies Roadshow 2009 regional showcase. Short films by WA filmmakers preceded each feature.

Saturdays — World Movies

Award-winning international features: Kabadayi: For Love and Honour from Turkey (31 Jan), Caramel from Lebanon (7 Feb), Welcome to the Sticks from France (14 Feb), King Corn from the USA (21 Feb), and the Italian comedy Her Whole Life Ahead (28 Feb).

Sunday 22 February — Tropfest

The popular Perth screening of MovieExtra TROPFEST, the world’s largest short film festival, presented the top 16 selected entries. A bonus screening of The Best of the West (all WA Tropfest entries) ran at the adjacent Port Cinema on Adelaide St from 4–6 p.m.
