Chicago, Illinois: Outdoor Movies Offer ‘Real Seats'

Country Club Hills, Illinois drew 150 to 400 people each week to its free Family Movie Night outdoor screenings in summer 2008. The city ran its own outdoor movie theater at 4116 W. 183rd St., next to city hall, with seating rather than the lawn-and-blanket setup common elsewhere.

Movies began at dusk and ran until around 10 p.m. The summer lineup included Shrek, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Shark Tale, Pride, and The Water Horse. Popcorn and candy were sold for 50 cents each.
