Coming Soon in Braintree: Three Free Family Outdoor Movie Nights
Beginning on July 15, families in town are invited to three free outdoor movie nights at the high school Carson Soccer Field.
Mayor (Joseph) Sullivan wanted to add some more to our already busy summer activities calendar, and we both felt that free family-friendly full length open air movie nights would be appreciated, Director of Recreation and Community Events William Hedlund said.
The first open air movie night that is being sponsored by the Braintree Electric Light Department and its BELD Broadband division will feature the Disney release Bolt featuring the voices of John Travolta and Miley ( Hannah Montana ) Cyrus.
Next, Shrek 2, featuring the voices of Mike Myers and Eddie Murphy, will be shown on July 22 on the huge, inflatable movie screen with professional sound for literally hundreds to enjoy outdoors similar to the days of drive-in theatres, Hedlund said.
Pixar's Toy Story, featuring the voices of Tom Hanks and Tim Allen, will be shown on Aug. 4.
In each case, a rain date has been scheduled for the following evening.
Residents are asked to arrive early to get the best parking spots near the football stadium and bring lawn chairs or blankets to spread out to enjoy the outdoor movies.
It is suggested that families also bring mosquito repellents to use since each open air movie will begin at about 8:15 p.m. when mosquitoes can be annoying, Hedlund said.
No alcohol or smoking will be permitted on the high school grounds during the open air movies, and any family who brings a cooler onto the grounds will be subject to inspection by the show staff to ensure compliance with this policy.
A concession will be operated during the outdoor movies with soft drinks, candy, and other pre-packaged consumables, along with hot dogs, at the Buck-A-Buy stand to be operated by the town's recreation summer staff.
There will be sufficient room for hundreds of people to get a great viewing spot on the soccer field, and we hope that these events will give families another opportunity for some fun this summer in Braintree, Sullivan said.
With the concerts at Sunset Lake each Tuesday night and the three movie nights on two Wednesdays and one Tuesday as well, there will be ample family oriented entertainment this summer in Braintree, Hedlund said. The cost is right for all.
