Red Star celebrates the 'Dead'
Not that "Dead." No, we're talking Day of the Dead, as in the Mexican holiday that brings Latino families together to pray and remember friends and relatives who are no longer among the living. Red Star puts a twist on things this Friday with their Fourth Annual Day of the Dead Party.
Hosted by local painter/musician Hunter Roth, the party will include music from the reunited band Brown Leaf Vertigo, Procrastinator & The Electric Painter, and the Color Pixels. In addition, art from Roth, Patrick Brabham, Charles Barbier, Natalie Clay, Paul Neff, Gina Martinez and more will be on display. With that much art, music and enough Mezcal shots to make you feel like a shriveled-up Mexican worm, what better way to celebrate El Dia de los Muertos is there? Well, then the grand finale of Baton Rouge Gallery's annual Movies & Music on the Lawn series is the spot for you.
Bring a picnic blanket and a bottle of wine with you and make your way to the lawn behind the Gallery for a special screening of the 1920 film, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. The silent film will be shown on a towering inflatable movie screen from the shadows of which Cohen & the Ghost will provide the soundtrack, live!
