Ballston Spa, New York: Free Movies Al Fresco for Families in Ballston Spa
The Ballston Spa Business and Professional Association will kick off will kick off its free outdoor movie series on June 5 with Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.
The movies will be projected on the wall of the Front Street Deli building in Wiswall Park on every first Friday from June through October.
The June 5 kick-off includes more than just the movie starring Gene Wilder. The audience will actually smell the chocolate, the bubble gum and the snozzberries thanks to technology called AromaRama, developed by Charles Weiss in the 1950s as a way to enhance the experience by appealing to the sense of smell at key moments in the film.
Wonka Bars will also be for sale, and just as in the film, five of them will contain golden tickets. Those who find a golden ticket will win prizes from local businesses, such as free chocolate from the Village Sweet Shoppe, a massage from BodyWork Professionals, Chocolate Tea and a gift card from The Whistling Kettle, a $100 savings bond from Ballston Spa National Bank and a chance to tour the former Bischoff Chocolate Factory with a gift card to dine in the Factory Eatery located there.
Admission to the outdoor films is free. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets to sit on, and the movies will begin at dark (around 9 p.m.)
If you're a fan of al fresco films, mark your calendar for Aug. 7 and 8, when the park will be home to the Second Annual Ballston Spa Film Festival which features more than 40 short films from around the world.
