Outdoor Movies to Benefit Colorado Tornado Victims

Downtown Castle Rock's Outdoor Movie Series kicks off with a Starlight Summer Movie to benefit the victims of the recent tornadoes in Weld County.

The Downtown Merchants Association of Castle Rock (CRMA) is partnering with the Mile High Chapter of the Red Cross to collect monetary donations for tornado victims. All money collected will remain in Colorado. The Douglas County Task Force is also on board to collect non-perishable food for local residents.

The open-air movie is scheduled for June 7, with live music from local favorite Hot Flash Band starting at 6:30 p.m., followed by kid's activities including an inflatable slide, balloon artist, face painting, and street performers. At approximately 8:30 p.m., Shrek III starts. Food, drinks, beer, and wine will be available for purchase.

"The event will, of course, be free — but we are encouraging everyone to bring cash or checks made payable to The Red Cross," said Event Coordinator Terri Goudy. Volunteers from the Douglas County Food Bank will also be on hand to collect non-perishable food, pet food, and laundry detergent.

The remaining Starlight Summer Movie dates are Hairspray on July 12 and Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory on Sept. 6. For more information visit downtowncastlerock.com.
