Olympia, Washington: August Brings Outdoor Cinema Events to Olympia, Washington
.
August is a great time of year for outdoor cinema because it's still warm, but the sun starts setting earlier. Thus, you'll find lots of opportunities to watch movies under the stars this month, especially if you live around Olympia, Washington.
This month the State Capital Museum in Olympia is hosting their second annual outdoor movie series. This series features older classics that you may not get a chance to see on the big screen, so this is a great event for classic film aficionados. According to last year's attendance people love Humphrey Bogart, so this year they started the series off with a bang with Casablanca. Event producers hope that word of mouth advertising from last year will boost this years' attendance to the outdoor film series. Films are shown each Friday night at about 9pm. Movie-goers are encouraged to bring warm clothes and blankets.
This Friday's outdoor movie screening will feature Cool Hand Luke, and the following Friday you can see the Hitchcock thriller The Birds.
Another outdoor movie experience is occurring this weekend at the Tumwater Valley Golf Course. Tumwater's annual "Screen on the Green" also shows films every Friday night, so you will have to choose which movie you want to see. Tumwater Parks and Recreation presents these outdoor cinema screenings on an inflatable movie screen. Admission is free and you will find all family-friendly films here. Refreshments are available for purchase; low-back chairs are welcome but pets are not.
This Friday you have the opportunity to see Bolt, and next Friday they are showing Bedtime Stories.
And finally, Lacey is finishing up their outdoor cinema series this Saturday with a double feature of Iron Man and the Incredible Hulk. It all begins at 7pm at Huntamer Park, corner of Woodland Square Loop and Seventh Avenue, Lacey. These movies under the stars are also free, so it should be an event that will be fun for the whole family.
