Free Open-air Cinemas in Manchester, UK
Film lovers will be able to watch their idols under the stars this summer at an open-air cinema. A giant screen is to open at the Spinningfields business district in the city centre offering free showings of classic films and sports events.
The Screenfields film fest begins in Hardman Square with Academy Award-winning film The Duchess, starring Keira Knightley, on Thursday next week.
Free screenings of cult and modern classics will follow from 9pm every Thursday, weather permitting.
Favourites including The Graduate, Breakfast at Tiffany's, Withnail and I and Monty Python and The Holy Grail have been pencilled in.
The summer's biggest sporting events, including the British Grand Prix, the golf Open, Ascot, the Ashes cricket Tests and the Lions' tour of New Zealand will also be shown on the 16ft by 10ft screen.
And classical music fans will be treated to a variety of concerts, including Last Night At The Proms live from London's Royal Albert Hall.
Popcorn will be available for all filmgoers and drinks and food promotions will be available from all nearby bars.
Deckchairs and picnic blankets will also be available for hire. KRO will open a temporary summer bar on Hardman Boulevard from Monday. The screenings are subject to cancellation in the event of high winds or heavy rain.
