Liverpool, United Kingdom: 'Pictures at the Pierhead' Presents Outdoor Movies in Liverpool, United Kingdom
Culture Liverpool, Liverpool City Councils' culture service, with Walk The Plank as Creative Producer, are to create a FREE programme of events using a wide range of media, over three weekends, featuring Britain's biggest outdoor cinema screen.
Liverpool's Pier Head and Albert Docks will become Britain's greatest FREE outdoor cultural venue for a spectacular season of 'On The Waterfront' events this summer. Events are to include outdoor movies with "Pictures at the Pierhead", always a favorite community event.
The 'On The Waterfront' season, which plays on the city's connections with New York, will involve collaboration with key creative partners such as the RLPO, National Museums Liverpool, Tate Liverpool, FACT and Liverpool Lantern Company.
The waterfront festival is one of the showpiece highlights of Liverpool's 2009 cultural calendar and will incorporate elements of Liverpool's critically acclaimed European Capital of Culture programme. Sat 26th 19.30 - 22.00 Pictures at the Pierhead A night of big screen outdoor cinema classics, with thematic connections to the waterfront location, and a supporting programme of locally produced short films.
Councillor Gary Millar, Liverpool City Council's Executive Member for Culture and Tourism, said: ''Liverpool's waterfront is one of the greatest in the world and deserves to be the home of a world class festival.
On The Waterfront has all the hallmarks of what was best about best of capital of culture - free, ambitious and appealing to everyone. The city has a fantastic reputation for delivering free events with a wow factor and it's critical to our future as a major tourism destination that we continue to do so.''
