East Lansing, Michigan: Michigan State University Presents a Dive-In Outdoor Movie

Photo Credit: Jason Chiou -The State News. Outdoor movies aren't just family events, and dive-in movie events aren't just for kids. Michigan State University recently hosted a dive-in outdoor movie event in the university pool, featuring the film "Kung Fu Panda". More than 400 students piled into the pool and surrounding lawn to enjoy the movie under the stars. Undergrad and post-graduate students sported swimsuits and brought flotation devices and pool toys, and some students even brought inflatable rafts from a recent river trip. College kids acted young again, splashing around on floating whales and alligators. Some students brought dates for a unique evening out. The outdoor cinema event was a joint venture with help from the Union Activities Board, or UAB, and the Residence Halls Association, or RHA. Previous dive-in movies had drawn audiences of around 300 people, so this event showed a growth in student interest and participation. I was happy with the final numbers, Rebecca Kapler, UAB's arts director said of this year's event. It was a short movie, so I'm happy we had that many people. (The State News)
