Athol, Massachusetts: Local Church Hosts Movies Under the Stars at a Drive-In-Style Screening
Selectmen have approved a series of outdoor movie nights to take place at Fish Park. The movies are done drive-in style and are being put on by the Athol Foursquare Church. The movies under the stars have been a popular event with church members and non-members alike.
This was a successful event last year, Selectman Anthony A. Brighenti said, reminding his colleagues at the selectmen's meeting Tuesday night. Board Chairman Alan D. Dodge agreed. It was well attended, he said. The Rev. Nicholas K. Morin, senior pastor of the church, said this is the second year that his church has brought the free outdoor film nights to the community.
Plans call for five movies to be shown over the summer, and the showings will be similar to attending a drive-in movie theater. You can watch in your car or outside of it. You just need a radio, explained Rev. Morin. The movies are rated G or PG and are oriented for family viewing. There are also snacks available. Movie nights will be held June 26, July 10 and 24, and Aug. 14 and 28. Rev. Morin said the church puts on the movie series as part of a community outreach.
