Recently lack of funding and budget constraints has caused Kitsap county to cut the outdoor movies and concerts which were previously offered free to the community. But local businesses rallied behind the outdoor cinema events to bring them back to life. Residents in Kitsap county felt that the free community events were an important part of their towns, and were able to raise the funding needed to continue the screenings and concerts. Now we are happy to report that several cities on the Kitsap peninsula are screening outdoor films for local communities.
In Bremerton a few years back, town developers wanted to gain some attention to their services so they started screening movies on the roof of an old JC Pennys building. The outdoor movies were so popular that the series has continued until this day.
Similarly, downtown Poulsbo will enjoy an outdoor cinema series, hosted by a local bookstore. Several other nearby cities are offering outdoor concerts due to popular demand. Most of these events are free and a great way to interact with the community. Community organizers have realized how important these free events are, and it looks like outdoor films and concerts are here to stay.

Looking for an outdoor movie experience that’s, well, a little different? Forget family-friendly blockbusters like Bedtime Stories and Hotel For Dogs. Three Dollar Bill Outdoor Cinema presents eclectic outdoor movies that you won’t see anywhere else… and we mean anywhere. This summer they have been screening an outdoor film series entitled “I Want My 1980″, but these are truly cult classics -you won’t find popular picks such as Ghostbusters or Ferris Bueler’s Day Off. Nonetheless, these are some really fun films that will take you back and give you a one-of-a-kind outdoor cinema experience.
Outdoor Cinema Schedule:
As the harvest moon dips behind the trees and daylight slips away, there is a moment of darkness settling over the crowd. But then: the screen lights up like a beacon in the darkness and illuminates the smiles that have jumped up on childrens’ faces. The stars are still visible as cinematic music introduces that night’s film, accompanied by the harmonies of breezes in the trees, late-night birdsong, and far-away cars speeding past. Here the movie joins the tapestry of a community park in twilight, it’s colors and storyline intertwining with the fabric of the stars and trees and families below. A community gathers together to enjoy something special: outdoor movies in the park.
