St. Louis, Missouri: Frightful Flick to be Shown Outdoors for Halloween Festivities

SHOCKTOBER PARTY: Jefferson College will host its annual Shocktober Halloween Party from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday inside the student center cafeteria on the Hillsboro campus, 100 Viking Drive. The event will feature a haunted house, hayride, games, music, costume contests and prizes. Admission and parking is free. There is a nominal cost for some games and activities. Saturday, Oct. 24

TRICK OR TREATING: The Jefferson County Library, Northwest Branch, will host trick or treating from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 24 at 5680 State Road PP, High Ridge. Children age 1 to 11 can wear their costumes to trick or treat through the library. There will be face painting and other activities in the children’s section. Advanced registration required. SPOOKY SATURDAY: Boo at the Zoo Spooky Saturday will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Saint Louis Zoo in Forest Park. The free event will feature safe and free trick-or-treating, a Halloween costume parade, live entertainment, crafts and games. Information: visit http://www.stlzoo.org or call 314-646-4771.

TRUNK OR TREAT: A community Trunk or Treat will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 31 at Cedar Hill Lutheran Church, 8600 Silver Lane, Cedar Hill. Information: 636-274-4802.

GREAT PUMPKIN FESTIVAL: The Downtown Twin Cities Business Association will host the Great Pumpkin Festival from 10 a.m. to noon Oct. 31 Merchants displaying a pumpkin in their windows will hand out candy to children accompanied by an adult. The Festus/Crystal City Kiwanis will judge costumes starting at 10 a.m. outside Metro Office Supply, 102 E. Main St., Festus. Judging will be done by age group in 15-minute intervals. HALLOWEEN NIGHT: The Herculaneum Fire Department will hold its annual Halloween night from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Oct. 31 at 151 Riverview Plaza Drive. Trick-or-treaters will be given candy, glow-in-the-dark bracelets, fire safety literature and a trick-or-treat bag. A Halloween-themed movie will be shown on the outdoor cinema screen. A Halloween “Egg Hunt” will begin at 7 p.m. for children age 12 and under. Registration for the egg hunt will begin at 6 p.m. Food, chips and drinks will be provided.

Columbia, Missouri: The University of Missouri Screens Outdoor Movies This Summer

Outdoor Movies at the University of MissouriTake a break from summer papers and midterms -or laying out by the pool, which ever describes your summer activity best- with outdoor movies at the University of . The Maneater -University of Missouri’s independent student newspaper reports outdoor films being screened throughout the summer months, with titles including Up and Star Trek. Admission to the outdoor cinema screenings is free, so all University students should take advantage of this great opportunity! Star Trek will be screened on Aug. 20 at 9:00pm at the Lowry Mall at the University of Missouri. If it rains it will be shown at the Jesse Auditorium, but keep your fingers crossed that the weather will stay beautiful for a great movie under the stars.

Outdoor Movie Description:
In this prequel, we meet James T. Kirk (Chris Pine), Spock (Zachary Quinto), Bones (Karl Urban), Uhura (Zoe Saldana) and the rest of group who will become the famed crew of the Enterprise. This film follows the early days and struggles of the team on their first mission out of Starfleet Academy.

Library Starting Outdoor Movie Nights

Outdoor Movies in Jefferson City, MissouriLooking for some fun and free family entertainment? Then consider “Stars Under the Stars” on the Capitol lawn.

The River Regional Library and city parks departily-oriented flicks on a giant inflatable screen at dusk on select Friday nights. Just be sure to bring your own lawn chairs, blankets and munchies (no alcoholic beverages).

Preshow activities starting at 7:30 p.m. include pirate games and a treasure hunt. Shows start about 8:30 p.m.

The following movies will be shown:

* “The Goonies” on June 12.

* “Singin’ In the Rain” on June 17.

* The Princess Bride” on Aug. 7.
