Minneapolis, Minnesota: Outdoor Movies in September

The summer outdoor concert series in has begun to wind down for the year, but music and movie-goers can still catch a few outdoor shows around the city through September. Lake Harriet, Solera restaurant in downtown Minneapolis, and several Minneapolis parks continue their outdoor entertainment well into the Fall season.

Minneapolis outdoor concerts/movies through mid-September:

Solera Movies on the Rooftop: Every Tuesday and Wednesday evening through September 16, this downtown Minneapolis restaurant shows free movies on their rooftop at dusk. (Directions here)

The Shining, September 8
Poltergeist, September 9
In Bruges, September 15
Rushmore, September 16

Movies in the Park Series: Throughout the summer, Minneapolis parks have shown outdoor movies as part of the Movies in the Park series. The last outdoor movies of the year fall on September 11 and 18. Sisters on the Planet, Sons of Lwala (September 11) will be shown at Matthews Park in the Minneapolis Seward neighborhood, and Kung Fu Panda (September 18) will be shown at Sibley Park in Minneapolis. Duluth, Minnesota: Outdoor Movies in the Park Screened in Duluth, Minnesota

Each Friday, free outdoor movies are screened in ’s beautiful Leif Erikson Park, but this week only the date has been switched to Sunday. These outdoor cinema events are very popular, so come early to stake out a spot in front of the giant inflatable movie screen. Movie-goers are encouraged to bring a blanket and/or chair to sit on. Food and refreshments will be available, but alcoholic beverages are not allowed. Also, smoking is prohibited except in designated areas. Dogs are welcome as long as they are leashed and cleaned up after. If the weather is too bad to show the movie, an announcement will be made at showtime.
