Manchester, England: Spinningfields for Outdoor Movies

The movies are coming to in a unique way. For the first time in city centre history Spinningfields is providing us with an open-air cinema.

And it’s all free and it’s every Thursday from 9pm.

There’ll be deckchairs, picnic blankets, popcorn, and, of course, a bar.

Films include The Duchess, Withnail and I, The Graduate, A Quantum of Solace, Breakfast at Tiffanys, The Incredibles, ET, The Boy with the Striped Pyjamas, The Rocky Horror Picture Show and Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

The outdoor film craze is sweeping the nation and has come to Manchester, ! Anyone who lives remotely close to Manchester, or visiting the area, will not want to miss the FREE outdoor movies screened in Veteran’s Park each Thursday night. These are family-friendly films shown on a giant inflatable movie screen. The first show is TONIGHT so wrangle up the kids and head to the park for an awesome evening of outdoor cinema. They have tested the inflatable screen (hence the pic) and everything looks great. People will start showing up around 6:30 pm, and the movie starts at dusk. You’ll want to bring blankets or chairs and whatever else you need to make a magical night with a movie under the stars. There will also be food vendors and a bounce house for the kids.

Outdoor Moves in manchester, United KingdomFilm lovers will be able to watch their idols under the stars this summer at an open-air cinema. A giant screen is to open at the Spinningfields business district in the city centre offering free showings of classic films and sports events.

The Screenfields film fest begins in Hardman Square with Academy Award-winning film The Duchess, starring Keira Knightley, on Thursday next week.

Free screenings of cult and modern classics will follow from 9pm every Thursday, weather permitting.

Favourites including The Graduate, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Withnail and I and Monty Python and The Holy Grail have been pencilled in.

The summer’s biggest sporting events, including the British Grand Prix, the golf Open, Ascot, the Ashes cricket Tests and the Lions’ tour of New Zealand will also be shown on the 16ft by 10ft screen.

And classical music fans will be treated to a variety of concerts, including Last Night At The Proms live from London’s Royal Albert Hall.

Popcorn will be available for all filmgoers and drinks and food promotions will be available from all nearby bars.

Deckchairs and picnic blankets will also be available for hire. KRO will open a temporary summer bar on Hardman Boulevard from Monday. The screenings are subject to cancellation in the event of high winds or heavy rain.
