Outdoor Movie Idea: Bedknobs and Broomsticks

The 1971 musical film/ animation Bedknobs and Broomsticks makes a great selection for your next outdoor movie – whether you’re inviting thousands of community members to your local park, or simply having an evening with family or friends right in your own backyard.  The film mixes animation and live recording, and so will make a bold bright image that will look clean and really great on your outdoor movie screen.  The film stars Angela Lansbury , David Tomlinson, Roddy McDowall, Cindy O’Callaghan, Roy Snart, and Ian Weighill among others. Bedknobs and Broomsticks has enchanted generations of children, and will bring magic and joy to your community today!  Here’s a short trailer for the film:

1940′s was significantly affected by the War, and most of the young men were sent off to fight. Eglantine Price (Angela Lansbury) wants to help in the war effort, particularly in protecting Kent, and so she enrolls in witchcraft school in order to learn a spell or two! Against her will, she is assigned to three young children from who have escaped the blitz bombing, who quickly discover her witchcraft and threaten to tell.

outdoor moviesIn a swap for their silence, Price casts a spell on a bedknob of an old bed, causing it to take the bed-traveler wherever they want, imaginary or real! But she has her own agenda, as she is seeking a special spell called “substitutiary locomotion” that makes inanimate objects move on their own accord. The group set out on a fun-filled journey full of suspense and action that will keep your entire community entertained, and will bring back old memories to those parents who loved this movie as children.

Kent, Washington: Family-Friendly Outdoor Cinema With Free Downtown Movies in Kent, Washington

This August, the City of is hosting free, family-friendly outdoor cinema at Town Square Plaza. Three downtown movies are to be shown at “ Summer Nights and the Silver Screen”, one of which has already past. Last week’s outdoor movie screening of Footloose was a big hit with the Kent community, as friends, families, and neighbors gathered to watch a movie under the stars. Don’t miss the remaining two movies to be screened this month!

This Friday, August 14, will screen the blockbuster hit Mamma Mia at 9:00pm. The following week, August 21, you can watch the outdoor film screening of Kung Fu Panda at 8:45pm. People will start gathering to stake their spot for the downtown movies about 45 minutes prior to showtime. Admission is free, so it should be a perfect night out with the family, although donations are gladly accepted to help keep the outdoor cinema running. Movie-goers should bring a blanket and low-back beach chairs.

Kent, Washington: See Movies Under the Stars in Downtown Kent

Outdoor Movies in Kent, WashingtonPeople in love getting together for community events, whether it be festivals, concerts, or kids activities. That’s why the Parks and Recreation department will be screening outdoor movies in Downtown next month. On three Friday nights they will be showing movies on an inflatable screen that will be enjoyable for kids and adults alike. The outdoor cinema series has been dubbed “Summer Nights and the Silver Screen”, as they aim to provide family-style entertainment for residents.

About 250-300 people are expected to attend August’s outdoor film events, although crowds could grow to 600-700 people. As there is no seating in the downtown plaza, movie-goers should bring chairs and blankets. There will be games and activities before the movie. The movie is free, but donations will be taken to help support the cost of the equipment and movie licensing fees. Kent Parks and Recreation is also searching for local business sponsorship. The outdoor movie projection system and inflatable screen is presented by Epic Events. The movie will be shown, rain or shine.

The movies are “Footloose,” at 9:15 p.m. Aug. 7; “Mama Mia!”, the sing-along edition, at 9 p.m. Aug. 14; and “Kung Fu Panda,” at 8:45 p.m. Aug. 21.
