Boyd County Public Library opens its debut Pictures in the Park outdoor movie series with a showing of the 1939 classic “Wizard of Oz.” The movie starts at dark – around 8 p.m. – just outside the Reading Garden at the Main Branch, 1740 Central Ave. The Library closes at 5 p.m. that day, so movie attendees should just come to the side of the building. This free outdoor film event is a great opportunity and not to be missed.

People need to bring their own chairs and blankets to the movie. Admission is free. Some refreshments are provided, and additional snacks can be purchased for a small cost.

The outdoor movie system includes a 12-foot inflatable screen and 100-watt speakers. All outdoor movies shown by The Library will be suitable for all ages – classic films and family films.

Outdoor movies will be shown on the last Friday of each month, through October, at dark. Upcoming selections include “Escape to Witch Mountain,” “E.T.” and “Star Wars: A New Hope.”
