Remember the Titans is an excellent pick for your next community outdoor movie or backyard cinema event! Right now is a perfect time to screen the film, as football season has just begun. Remember the Titans is based on the true story of football coach Herman Boone (played by Denzel Washington), who in 1971 successfully integrated T. C. Williams High School in Alexandria, Virginia amidst significant racial discrimination. The film is critically and popularly successful, and will no doubt draw a large crowd to your outdoor movie screening. Here is the theatrical release trailer for the Remember the Titans:

In 1971, Herman Boone (Denzel Washington) is hired to be the head coach of the T. C. Williams high school football team. He replaces head coach Bill Yoast (Will Patton), who is slated for the Virginia High School Hall of Fame. However, Boone offers Yoast a position on the team as assistant coordinator.

The story goes on to portray the team overcoming their divisions to become undefeated (as Boone is told he’ll be fired if he loses one game).

Remember the Titans is a story about coming together as a community, no matter what makes its members different. This film makes a perfect pick for your next community outdoor movie event, as it represents the values of working together against all odds. Many of your community members will have seen this film, but they’ll be excited at the prospect of seeing it on the big screen!

The Outdoor Film Festival offered three nights of free outdoor movies, and an opportunity to highlight CFNC’s work and raise funds for CFNC programs. Kids and adults alike had the opportunity to watch Shrek 2, Spiderman 2, and the Wizard of Oz, and support neighborhood services in their community. Proceeds from the food sales benefited CFNC.

Alexandria City Mayor William “Bill” Euille attended the Festival all three evenings. Hundreds of families from the Alexandria City area enjoyed the movies. Thanks to Comcast, the City of Alexandria, dedicated volunteers, and generous support from the movie-goers, CFNC raised almost $4,000 and shared information their organization.
