Outdoor Movie Idea: Remember the Titans

Remember the Titans is an excellent pick for your next community outdoor movie or backyard cinema event! Right now is a perfect time to screen the film, as football season has just begun.  Remember the Titans is based on the true story of football coach Herman Boone (played by Denzel Washington), who in 1971 successfully integrated T. C. Williams High School in , amidst significant racial discrimination. The film is critically and popularly successful, and will no doubt draw a large crowd to your outdoor movie screening. In 1971, Herman Boone (Denzel Washington) is hired to be the head coach of the T. C. Williams high school football team.  He replaces head coach Bill Yoast (Will Patton), who is slated for the Virginia High School Hall of Fame.  However, Boone offers Yoast a position on the team as assistant coordinator.

outdoor moviesAt first Yoast doesn’t want the position, but is then persuaded by the white members of the team to stay on, as they say they’ll quit if he isn’t involved. The story goes on to portray the team overcoming their divisions to become undefeated (as Boone is told he’ll be fired if he loses one game).

Many of your community members will have seen this film, but they’ll be excited at the prospect of seeing it on the big screen!

Alexandria, Virginia: Outdoor Movies Benefits Charity in Alexandria, Virginia

Outdoor Movies in Alexandria, VirginiaOver the weekend of July 29, Comcast and the City of presented The Comcast Outdoor Film Festival at Ben Brenman Park, benefiting the Child and Family Network Centers (CFNC). The Outdoor Film Festival offered three nights of free outdoor movies, and an opportunity to highlight CFNC’s work and raise funds for CFNC programs. Kids and adults alike had the opportunity to watch Shrek 2, Spiderman 2, and the Wizard of Oz, and support neighborhood services in their community. Proceeds from the food sales benefited CFNC.

Alexandria City Mayor William “Bill” Euille attended the Festival all three evenings. Hundreds of families from the Alexandria City area enjoyed the movies. Thanks to Comcast, the City of Alexandria, dedicated volunteers, and generous support from the movie-goers, CFNC raised almost $4,000 and shared information their organization.
