Once Bessie Jasinski retires from her job at Philips Electronics next year, the pair plans to take to the road and bring films to parishes and campgrounds across the country.
James Jasinski, a 63-year-old former Wallingford police officer who has since retired, said he was called by God to start the ministry, but has received positive feedback from viewers who find it difficult to enjoy more mainstream entertainment with their families.
“They’re having a hard time, because the TV is inundated with violence and sex and everything else,” he said. “The same with secular movies in the theater – it’s hard to find good films nowadays.”
The story behind the idea traces back more than 30 years to James Jasinski’s time on the police force. While checking in at the department one day, he noticed a flyer posted by a Meriden officer about a Christian film he was planning on showing. The Jasinskis turned out, and plans for the movie ministry had been brewing ever since.

On Sunday Night, May 13th (Mother’s Day), the college students will be having a Drive-In Movie Night. Regular services are canceled for that evening, so come join in the fun as we watch Cars and The Princess Bride. We will have the big projector screen set up near the new picnic pavilion so we can back our trucks up to watch a couple great flicks. Popcorn, candy and sweet tea will be provided. Last night we went to the second annual outdoor movie night at our church. Like last year, it was an enjoyable way to spend a warm summer night with other church community members. It reminded me of going to drive-in movies when I was a child, but it’s even better. The kids can move around more freely when they’re restless, and you can look up at the stars on a clear night. Not only is this a great summertime event for a church, but it would be fun for a neighborhood block party, or other community organizations. You can even host one at home for family and friends if you have a large enough yard. Here’s how to plan your own outdoor movie night:

Our own, Derek Heckler, has an inflatable screen and projector that allows us to enjoy this unique experience on the front lawn of the church. Beginning at 7:30 p.m. we will be showing some cartoons and around 7:45 p.m. we will begin our feature film, Enchanted. All are invited to attend. Please feel free to dress comfy and bring blankets, pillows, chairs, and whatever else you need to make yourself at home. We also ask that everyone bring a snack to share with the group.
