Shelbyville, Tennessee: Starlite Cinema Opens Second Season of Outdoor Movies

Outdoor Movies Begin Second Season

Outdoor Movies in Shelbyville, TennesseeThe City of Parks and Recreation Center has begun its second year of the Starlite Cinema, a family-friendly movie event that takes place at H.V. Griffin Park behind the small shelter at H.V. Griffin Park in .

Wall-E was the premiere movie and it was shown on Friday, May 22.

This is the second year for the Starlite Cinema. Last year, the biggest audience was 90 people.

“Hopefully this year we will get bigger audiences as word of the event spreads,” said Jennifer Swann, recreation program coordinator for the Parks and Recreation Department.

“This is a family-friendly event and is better than going out to a theater because it is free. We show older movies because we do not want to take business away from our local theater.”

Also, businesses may sponsor movies for $150.

Concessions that are sold include popcorn, ring-pops, and drinks. Families are welcome to bring blankets and spread out on the lawn picnic-style.

This Friday, Grease will be shown at Starlite Cinema. A schedule of all the movies that will be shown this summer is:
