Seattle, Washington: Fremont Outdoor Cinema Presents Movies Under the Stars All Summer Long

Fremont Outdoor Cinema Features Outdoor Movies in Seattle, WashingtonFremont Outdoor Cinema will kick off its 2009 outdoor movie season with a special singalong screening of last year's summer hit "Mamma Mia!" (with Meryl Streep, above) June 20. (Wait, isn't every screening of "Mamma Mia!" a singalong screening? It seemed that way when I went.) The series continues weekly through Aug. 29, with an Oktoberfest screening of "Animal House" on Sept. 12. Five films will be presented as special events, including "Mamma Mia!" (ABBA karaoke); "Edward Scissorhands" on June 27 (dueling hairstylist presentation from Rudy's Barbershop's top seven stylists); "Shaun of the Dead" on July 3 (an attempt to break the Guinness Book of World Records attempt for largest zombie walk, plus a book signing and Zombie Survival Workshop); "The Big Lebowski" on July 20 ("Lebowski Fest," featuring live music and special guests); and "Bottle Shock" on Aug. 16 (local wine samples and a blind taste test). All 14 movies will feature preshow audience games, contests, improv comedy and prize giveaways; portions of each evening's proceeds will go toward designated charities. All screenings take place outdoors at 3501 Phinney Ave. N., against the wall of Fremont Studios (with the exception of "Mamma Mia!," which will screen at Magnuson Park); most are Saturday nights, with a few exceptions. Admission is a suggested donation of $5; doors open for seating at 7 p.m., with films beginning at dusk. The full schedule is below; for more information, see www.fremontoutdoormovies.com.
